What Not To Do

Title Tags

Your title tags are the single most important factor to consider when optimizing your web page for the search engines. Most search engines and directories place a strong emphasis on the keywords that are found in your title tag. Additionally, your title tag is also what the search engines usually displays when listing your site in its search results.

Your title tag should look as follows and belongs inside the Head tags of your page.

Example:

<TITLE>Your Title Tag</TITLE>

Tips:
  • 80 Characters maximum. Your title tag should be no longer than 80 characters long.

  • Don’t overdo it. We recommend that you include 1-2 of your most important keyword phrases in the title tag, but don’t just list keywords. Search engines view this as spam.

  • Make your title enticing. Use interesting titles that will make potential visitors want to check out your site.

  • Be original. Try to use unique titles for each page on your site relevant to the page that it appears on.
