 | Webmaster Tips, Tricks & Utilities A MATTER OF CREDIBILITY by Jim Coddington ITB Services | Well, it happened again, just as it does everyday. Another email popped up offering to "teach" me how to makes "THOUSANDS" on the Internet. Yeah, Right!!! Don't misunderstand me. I don't think I know everything and I am still willing to learn. And I also know, from personal experience, that there are thousands to be made through Internet Marketing. My scepticism is not with the idea of Internet Marketing, it is with the "sender" of the information. | First off, I received the "I will teach you" letter on a free list server. That is, a list server owned by another company whose advertisements are on each message sent out. A company, that is, who CONTROLS how many subscribers one has and ultimately benefits from others' businesses without having to make compensation. It's a great racket and my hat's off to them. But, why would anyone, in a serious business, give that kind of control to someone else? Because it's free? I'm sorry but even the novice Internet Marketer not only can afford the list server, but understands the importance of having total control over it and delivering non-spam emails to tens of thousands of subscribers. | | How then can I take ANY these business seriously when they don't understand or are UNWILLING to invest in the most basic Internet business tool. They are just not credible. As a real matter of trust, this "Internet Guru" wanted me to reply to his FREE email address...... Excuse me, I am not saying any more about this because I can't stop laughing every time I think about it. Again, I have nothing against free email, but please don't bring it into the business world; leave it for the kids where it belongs. | But my scepticism goes even deeper. How many ads and invitations do we get to buy products and services from the Internet? Yet, so many of these people who are in essence saying "Trust me. Send me your money. I will be here if there is a problem." do not even have their own domain (url). We are expected to go to some website www.whatever.com/trustmesendmoney123skip. and send THEM our MONEY. Come on, get serious, we're not fools. It is like going to a store and having someone outside with his trunk open and his engine running trying to sell you the products that are INSIDE the store. At least in that situation you can SEE the person and he does own a car. Anyone can do business from a free list server, free email, and someone else's domain. It could even be one of those kids I just mentioned. | | There is nothing wrong with being an affiliate of many companies. I belong to many. But in order to have credibility, you must bring the prospect to YOUR domain and then send them to the affiliate pages. Is a potential customer going to have more faith in purchasing from a table at a parking lot flea market, or a store where the owner has a personal financial investment? It's no different on the Internet. And again, having your own professional domain, designing it to your specific needs, and having unlimited email addresses is not that big of an investment. | Well, I do answer some of the " I will make you rich" emails and many others. I ask them if they will guarantee traffic. I ask them if they will provide over 200 sales letters that I can use. Do they have a follow up system that will automatically deliver up to 25 letters to prospects over a 90 day period of Time? Do they have a system that can classify unlimited targeted audiences to receive messages concerning sales information, follow up, customer service, etc? Do they own their own Banner Exchange, an Automated Classified System, a Free Post Card Service, a Stats Program that will detail ALL the necessary information about the traffic of each page of your domain? Do they provide personal daily support from the CEO of the company? | | Most don't answer. Those who do ALWAYS say " No." They are waiting for their business to build before they invest. Silly people. These are the tools they MUST have in order to build a successful Internet business. One doesn't say, I will wait for the customers to come and then build my store. Now you see why I say, " Yeah, Right!! You're going show ME????" | If anyone hopes to make money on the Internet they must have the proper tools and a credible presence if they wish to be successful. Do not blame the prospects for not purchasing when you REFUSE to invest in your business and more importantly in yourself. Building a business on the Internet is not a game. It is serious. It takes time, training, and investment as does any business. If you want to do it, do it RIGHT! |
